Melvin E. Hohn, age 70, of Sterling, died Monday, March 4, 2013 at his home.
Melvin was born June 1, 1942 in Dimock, S.D. the son of Raymond and Ella (Kuster) Hohn. He served in the US Navy. Melvin married Jo Ann Jacobsen on July 9, 1966 in Mitchell, S.D. He later married Beverly Pociecha in Mt. Carroll. He was employed at Northwestern Steel and Wire in the Furnace Department for 31 years retiring in 1997. He enjoyed his cats, pheasant hunting, going to car shows and following NASCAR. Melvin was the owner of Hohn Repair, a member of the American Legion Post 902, and was a life member of the VFW where he was Officer Of the Day.
Survivors include his wife of Sterling; two daughters, Janet (Jeffrey) Tschosik of Dixon and Shari (Michael) Eddinger of Rock Falls; four step sons, Matthew, Ronald, Michael and David; three sisters, Edna (Kenneth) Gabel of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Donna (Rich) Steiner of Parkston, S.D., and Karen Mountain of Gillette, Wyo.; two brothers, Delbert Hohn of Mitchell, S.D. and Dennis (GeGe) Hohn of Mitchell, S.D.; four grandchildren, Evan, Nickolas, Bethany and Natalie; nine step grandchildren; and two step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Joel Hohn.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 7, 2013 from 5 – 7 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Avenue in Rock Falls. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, March 8, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Rock Falls with Msgr. Thomas Dzielak officiating. Military rites will follow the mass outside of the church.
