Pastor Frank F. "Smokey" Echebarria, 75, of Sterling, died Monday, December 10, 2012 at CGH Medical Center.
Born November 4, 1937 in Sterling he was a son of Exiquio and Maria (Rodriguez) Echebarria. He was united in marriage to Clementine Watson on January 2, 1965 in Sterling. She preceded him in death on March 26, 1998.
He was the pastor of Tabernacle Christian Church in Sterling for 14 years and also worked at Northwestern Steel and Wire Company as a blocker until his retirement in 1997.
He had a love of music especially playing the guitar. He enjoyed watching boxing and football on television. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and never missed one of their football games.
Surviving are his daughters, Carol (Brian) Miller of McNabb, Amanda (Reynaldo) Zamora of Sterling, Melissa (Angel) Zamora of Cleveland, Tennessee, and Vicki (Rene) Garcia of Sterling; a son, Frank (Brandi) Echebarria, Jr. of Dixon; a sister, Maria (Tony) Monciuias of Sterling; brothers, Jerry, John and Tony Echebarria all of Sterling, and Ezekiel Echebarria of Rock Falls; and 13 grandchildren, Andrew "Porky", Adam "Fatty Boy", Jose "No Way Joe-Say", Adriana "Lular", Frankie "kiko", Misael "Sambo", Santiago "Froggy", Ashton "Prescious", Exiquio "Squeak", Clementina "Nellie", Rene Jr. "Arms" and Easton "Mowgli".
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents, 3 sisters, Adeline Martinez, Carmen Echebarria and Mary Echebarria; and 2 brothers, David Echebarria and Ruben Echebarria and a granddaughter, Arie "Pinky" Chana Boggio.
Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Thursday, December 13 in McDonald Funeral Home, Rock Falls. The funeral will be at 1 PM Friday, December 14, at Tabernacle Christian Church, Sterling with Pastor Les Funderberg, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling.
