William H. Poerstel, age 84, of Prophetstown died Friday, March 29, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.

William was born February 22, 1929 in Latrobe, PA, the son of William T. and Mary Kathryn (McKay) Poerstel. He married Joan Peters on October 19, 1957 in Cicero, IL. He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Prophetstown and served in the US Navy from 1946 to 1949. William worked in the aircraft maintenance department at United Airlines for 36 years, he retired in 1988. He was the past president of the Holy Name Society, belonged to the Toastmasters, and enjoyed home projects and repairs.

Survivors include his wife, Joan of Prophetstown, five children, Mary (John) Sherrick of Mason City, IA, William T. "Bill" (Michelle) Poerstel of Overland Park, KS, Patricia (Kevin) Beese of Glen Ellyn, IL, Nancy Kyle of Madison, AL, and Julie (Lorenzo) Hall of Riverside, CA, five siblings, Thomas Poerstel of Lansdowne, VA Anne DeCourcy of Rockville, MD, Robert (Patricia) Poerstel of Sharon, PA, Clare (Don) Weaver of Pittsburgh, PA, John (Mary) Poerstel of Midlothian, VA, twelve grandchildren, one great grandchild, and two step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters, Mary Margaret Cavanaugh, Kathryn Campbell, and Jeanne Gerthoffer.

Visitation will be 5-8PM Monday, April 1, 2013 with a rosary starting at 4:30 PM at McDonald Funeral Home in Prophetstown, 46 Grove Street. Funeral service will be 11 AM Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Prophetstown with Reverend Francis Wawyczyck officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown.
