Virginia C. Hunter
Virginia C. Hunter, age 97, of Sterling, died Monday, October 16, 2017 at Morningside of Sterling.
Virginia was born June 28, 1920 in Rock Falls the daughter of Arthur E. and Genevieve B. (Coe) Deem. She was a 1938 graduate of Rock Falls High School where she was active in drama and plays. Virginia attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon and later married John G. Bohlken on August 24, 1940. They were married for 30 years. She married Albert L. Hunter on June 27, 1975 in Geneva. He preceded her in death on October 23, 1988. Virginia was employed at D & W Heating and Cooling as a bookkeeper for many years and later worked at KSB Hospital as a switchboard operator for ten years. She was a member of Rock Falls United Methodist Church and Eastern Star. Virginia played the saxophone and was an avid tennis and Cubs fan who was lucky enough to see them win the World Series.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan (Doug) Brotheridge of Sterling and Mary (Kent) Maxted of Rockford; two sons, Greg (Joanne) Bohlken of Rock Falls and Terry Bohlken of Sterling; and one step son, James (Kelly) Hunter of Rock Falls; one brother, Art (Ruth) Deem of Sterling; 14 grandchildren, Marilyn (Tim) Roth, Joseph Bohlken, Gregory Bohlken, Travis Howard, Pete (Stephanie) Bohlken, Tracy Bohlken, Brittany Bohlken, Christy (Keith) Adams, Brett Brotheridge, Mindy (Aaron) Swartz, Megan (Dan) Huffman, Melissa Pierson, Jennifer Pautsch and Charlie Hunter; and many great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one daughter, Sally Bancroft; one sister, June Robinson; and one granddaughter, Angela Bell.
Graveside services will be Friday, October 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling with Rev. Dr. Solomon Sudhaker of Rock Falls United Methodist Church officiating.
A memorial has been established.
