Twila G. "Penny" Steffes, 79, of Sterling, died Wednesday evening, March 2, 2016 at CGH Medical Center.
Born December 24, 1936 in Arcadia, Indiana County, Pennsylvania she was a daughter of Ben and Geraldine Rose (Pennington) Bartlebaugh. She was united in marriage to Edmond Steffes on April 25, 1981 in Sterling.
Penny was employed with Lawrence Brothers for 32 years. She was a US Navy veteran stationed at Pearl Harbor and received the Good Conduct Medal. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Sterling where she served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, worked in the church library and assisted with funeral dinners. Penny enjoyed reading and was a member of the Sterling Women of the Moose.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Edmund, of Sterling; a daughter, Jolene (Francis) Corl of Sterling; sisters, Florence Thompson of Pennsylvania, Gail Pennington of Missouri, Donna (Sylvester) Mayes of Ohio State, Sue Insley of Rock Falls, and Geralda Mayberry of Sterling; brothers, Ben Bartlebaugh of Ohio State and Brian Barllebaugh of Washington State; and 2 grandchildren, Adam Tater and Kale Corl.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, June Johnson and a stepson Arthur Steffes.
Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Monday, March 7 at McDonald Funeral Home in Sterling. The funeral will be at 10 AM Tuesday, March 8 at the funeral home with Reverend Christina Berry, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Sterling, officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Dixon with full military honors. A memorial has been established in her memory.
