STERLING – Thomas R. Billings, age 94, formerly of Rock Falls, died Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Heritage Woods, Sterling.
Thomas was born August 11, 1923 in Lacky, W. Va. the son of Ambrose and Amie (Duncan) Billings. He married Betty Hamilton on September 23, 1946 in Welch, W. Va. She died August 20, 2015. He was raised in Chilhowie, Va. before his family moved to Rock Falls in 1948. Thomas was employed as a Machinist for 31 years with Northwestern Steel & Wire Parish Alford, Rock Falls. He served his country during WWII in the United States Navy. Thomas was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan and loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include, one son, Ron (Janie) Billings of Rock Falls; one granddaughter, Stacy (Gale) Verdick of Aurora; three great grandchildren, Sara (Adam) Benjamin of Aurora, Jessica Verdick and Jenna Verdick; one great great grandson, Dean Verdick; one great great step-granddaughter, Paige Benjamin; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, four brothers.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be Friday, October 6, 2017 from 1:00-2:00 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home, Rock Falls. Memorial services will follow at the funeral home with Pastor Dalmus Meeks officiating.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
