Ryan Steven Schafer, 43, of Edmond, Oklahoma, formerly of Sterling, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014.

On Dec. 31, a loving son, cherished brother, and devoted husband and father was taken into the loving arms of the Lord.

With all burdens removed from your shoulders, you can soar to the heavens, fly with the birds, catch a snowflake with the palm of your hand, and sing with the angels.

As God's gift to our family, our hearts are broken, our spirits shattered, but our love abounds for you.

Your kind and thoughtful ways will always be with us until we meet again.

Ryan was born Jan. 24, 1971, in Sterling, the son of Ronald and Beverly Jill (Short) Schafer. He graduated from Sterling High School, Class of 1989, and went on to receive his bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma. Ryan owned his own company in Oklahoma called Syd-Do.

Survivors include his mother, Jill of Sterling; his wife, Sandy of Edmond; two children, Sydney, 11, and Jett, 8, both of Edmond; one brother, Douglas Schafer of Moline; two sisters, Lori Baumgart of Sterling, and Beth Schafer of Champaign; five nieces and nephews, Mitchell Magnafici, P.J. Baumgart, Shaylee Baumgart, Lindsay Knutsen, and Zachary Schafer; one aunt and uncle, Imogene and Carrol Cline of Petersburg; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ron.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday at McDonald Funeral Home, 505 First Ave., Sterling. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church in Sterling, with Rev. Nathan Wilkins officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
