Roy G. Chavez, Sr., age 69, died Monday, January 1, 2017 at ST. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford.

Roy was born on August 13, 1948 in Weslaco, Texas the son of Juan and Paula (Guerreo) Chavez. He married Debbie Walker of Rockford. She preceded him in death in 1975. Roy was employed with Plews Edelmans in Dixon for several years and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict.

Survivors include two sons, Roy S. Chavez, Jr. and Mark A. Chavez both of Sterling; two brothers, Lee (Francis) Chavez and Martin (Maddie) Chavez both of Sterling; two grandchildren, Markus Chavez and Julia Chavez both of Sterling; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; one sister.

Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 PM Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the McDonald Funeral Home in Sterling. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday at the funeral home with military rites to follow.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
