Roland "Rollie" Conkling, 75, of Rock Falls, passed and left us to go home to his Lord and Savior on Friday February 25, 2022 at his home. Rollie was born on July 27, 1946 in Peoria IL, the son of Roland and Melba (Walker) Conkling. He married Dora Manuel on July 3, 1979 in South Carolina. He was a veteran of the US Air Force. Rollie was employed as an automotive instructor at Whiteside Area Career Center for 33 years, retiring in 2016. Following retirement, he owned and operated Rollie's Automotive in Sterling. Rollie attended Harvest Time Bible Church. He spent his time laughing and joking with his beloved wife, cherished children and grandchildren, and many, many friends. Additionally, he enjoyed working on cars, attending dirt track races with his buddy Steve, and taking care of his "million dollar dog." Rollie will be remembered for many things: His life-long passion for cars, and his honest and strong work ethic made his shop one of the favorites around town.

Survivors include his wife, Dora "Winkie" Manuel Conkling, of Rock Falls; one daughter, Jill (Danny) Thomas of Chandler, AZ; one son, Jon Conkling of Phoenix, AZ; stepson, Daniel Clapp of Chilhowie, VA; sister, Debra Galvan of Dixon; six grandchildren, Cortney, Cole, James, and Carson Thomas, Kevin Tena, and Jonny Conkling; and his little Puggle Josie.

Rollie was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Linda Conkling.

Cremation rites will be accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday March 1, 2022 at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Memorial service will follow at 11:00am with Pastor Dalmus Meeks officiating, concluded by military honors.

A memorial has been established in his honor at Safe Haven Humane Society 1471 US Highway 20 Elizabeth IL 61028.
