Robert C. Schwab, 82 of Rock Falls died peacefully at his home on Thursday December 27, 2018.

He was born on August 19, 1936 in Sterling, the son of Leonard and Esther (Brown) Schwab and was a graduate of Rock Falls High School. Bob served in the Marine Corps aboard a Navy ship, stationed in the Mediterranean, as a signalman. He married the former Margaret J. Challand on June 23, 1962 in Sterling. Bob worked many years for National Cash Register Co. as a service technician. He owned City Answerphone in Sterling and The Garden Shop in Rock Falls. Bob enjoyed restoring antique brass cash registers, gardening, fishing, wood carving and singing with the Rock River Barbershop Chorus. Having spent his life on the Rock River, he felt a responsibility for preserving the natural resources of the canal and the river for future generations. Bob volunteered for decades, leading river and canal clean up projects and mentoring local youth.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret; his son, Rob (Sharon) Schwab; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; his sister, Sue (Tom) Alt and his brother Tom Schwab.
He was preceded in death by his brother Leonard Schwab.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 from Noon– 2 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Avenue in Rock Falls, IL. with cremation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling, IL
