Robert "Bob" C. Byington, 65 of Coleta passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Robert was born on November 2, 1953 in Fairfield, IL, the son of Freda (Shaw) and Leonard Byington. He loved his family, guitars, eagles and he had a passion for music. He played in many bands. He loved to teach music to whoever was willing to learn. He worked for many businesses in Sterling (steel mill, Gate City Steel and P.N.P etc.). He was a United States Marine Veteran and served in Vietnam.

He is the father to one son and two daughters, five grandchildren and great grandkids. He was an amazing dad, grandpa and friend. He loved all of his family and enjoyed going to family reunions to see all of his relatives. He touched many lives. If you meet him you always seemed to enjoy talking to him. He was always a person everyone enjoyed. Even all his extra kids that wasn't his.

He will be truly missed by his true love, Sue Cover Byington; his son, Robert M. Byington of WA; his two daughters, Brandy Cover (Matt Burns) of Dixon and Wendy (Justin) Druien of Milledgeville; five grandchildren, Krystal and Hailey Druien of Milledgeville and Hope Cover-Burns of Dixon; and his great grand kids. He has two brothers Jack Matthews (Betty Jo) of Rock Falls and Leonard (Kay) Byington of Lyndon; one sister, Ruth (Bo) Greenwalt of Morrison and all of his relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his step-dad, Fred Clark; one sister, Sue; one brother, Michael and one great grandchild.

Cremation rites have been accorded with the McDonald Funeral Home and Crematory in Rock Falls. A celebration of life will held at a later date for relatives from out of town.

A memorial is established in his memory.
