Robert A. Gilbert, 90, of Milledgeville, died Friday, January 13, 2017 at Good Samaritan Living Center in Mt. Carroll.

Robert was born August 17, 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa; he was a son of Cloy and Mabel (Smith) Gilbert. He was united in marriage to Joanne L. Capp on April 11, 1953 at First Christian Church in Rock Falls. She preceded him in death on March 15, 2002. Robert retired from Carroll Service (FS) as plant manager after working there for 17 years.

Those left to honor his memory include two daughters, Bonnie (Lynn) Queckboerner and Laurie (Mark) Byvick both of Milledgeville; his brother, Earl Gilbert of TX; his sister, Lois Leonard of AZ; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, sister, Betty Sites and one grandson.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A private graveside service will be held at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling on Friday, January 20, 2017. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Milledgeville Men's Club on Friday, starting at 5:00 PM.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of McDonald Funeral Home and Crematory in Milledgeville. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his memory.
