Richard M. Finnicum, 81 of Sterling, died peacefully at his home following a short illness.
He was born on June 30, 1937 in Morrison, the son of Howard Henry and Eulalie (Schryver) Finnicum and he had served in the US Navy. He married Kay Myers on April 18, 1958. She died on January 5, 2011.
He was employed for 37 ½ years at the former Parish-Alford Plant in Rock Falls of Northwestern Steel and Wire retiring as a fork lift operator in shipping. He enjoyed fishing, drinking coffee with friends, playing cards and going to the Wild Rose Casino. Anyone who knew Richard, knew that he spoke his mind and was an ornery "SOB".
Survivors include his son, Richard (Heather) Finnicum of Fort Wayne, IN; his daughter, Brenda Finnicum of Sterling; his grandchildren: Cena (Justin) Holloway of Rock Falls, Richard (Jenna) Finnicum III of Columbia City, IN, Zachary Linton of Sterling, Brian (Mallory) Finnicum of Auburn, IN and Sara Finnicum of Fort Wayne, IN; his great granddaughter Kaileen Jenay Finnicum.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his seven sibblings.
At his request there will be no services and cremation will take place.
There will be no memorial established, however donations may be made to Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling.
As a family, we would like to extend a special thank you to Pam and Jeff Silva and family for their love and generosity was greatly appreciated; and also a special thank you to Rock River Hospice and Home.
