Rock Falls – Richard L. Willhite, 78 died Monday September 27, 2021 at Rock River Hospice & Home in Sterling.

He was born on July 30, 1943 in Sterling the son of Donald C. and Helen L. (Insley) Willhite. He served in the US Navy from 1961-1964. He married Connie L. Reed on June 26, 1965 in Rock Falls. Richard was employed at the former RB&W and later Reliant Fastener for 38 years. He was a member of the 1st Christian Church in Sterling; a member of the Rock Falls American Legion Post 902 having served as past Commander and had served for 28 years as Post Chaplain, District Chaplain and Division Chaplain. Richard was active and in involved with the Boy Scouts of America for over 55 years. He also was a member of the former Odd Fellows Lodge having served as a Past Grand.

Survivors include his wife, Connie; two sons: John (Debbie) Willhite of Lyndon and Donald Willhite of Rock Falls; his sister Donna Willhite of Sterling; his grandchildren: Meagon Willhite, Ryan Willhite, Michael Willhite, Eliza-Lynn McNinch and Kalina Willhite.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother Frank.

Visitation will be Friday October 1, 2021 from 5-7 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home, Rock Falls. The funeral will follow on Saturday at 10 AM at the funeral home, with the Reverend Zach Mapes officiating. Burial will conclude with military honors at Oak Knoll Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the 1st Christian Church or to the Rock Falls American Legion Post 902 Honor Guard.
