Richard L. Akridge
Richard L. Akridge, age 83, of Sterling, died Monday, September 6, 2021 at his home.
Richard was born June 16, 1938 in Sterling the son of Ivan and Dorothy (Howard) Akridge. He married Carol Sue Bell on August 18, 1957 in Sterling. They just celebrated their 64th anniversary. Richard was employed at Illinois Forge, Rock River Vending Company for 25 years and National Manufacturing for 13 years. He enjoyed boating, water skiing, snow skiing, playing tennis and running local tennis tournaments. Richard mostly enjoyed spending time with his grandsons, family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Sue Akridge; his daughter, Tamme Akridge of Sterling; three sisters, Shirley Wharfield of Rock Falls, Jean Stevens of Rock Falls and Sally Fell of Ft. Myers, Fla.; one brother, Kenny (Ruth) Akridge of Ocklawaha, Fla.; two grandsons, Kristian (Demi) Clardie of Elgin and Aaron (MaKayla) Clardie of Sterling; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers-in-law, Dale, Donald, Aaron, Tom and Jim.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 9, 2021 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. The funeral will be Friday, September 10, 2021 at 10:30 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Brian Vickers of the Rock River Christian Center and Pastor Don George co-officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
