Richard "Dick" L. Short, age 83 formerly of Milledgeville, died Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport.

Dick was born on February 4, 1931 in Dixon. In 1948, he joined the United States Army and served in the Korean War. During his time of service, he was awarded the Purple Heart and was honorably discharged in September of 1952. He worked for Gibbs Dry Wall in Milledgeville for 40 years before retiring. Dick was an avid Chicago Bears, Chicago White Sox, and Fighting Illini fan. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports, and was also a supporter of the local Milledgeville High School football team. He enjoyed listening to music, especially Frank Sinatra.

Survivors include one daughter, Mia (Phil) McDermott of Freeport; three sons, Joe (Sharon) Rogers of Milledgeville, Richard Short of Dixon and Torre Short of Milledgeville; three sisters, Mary Wolf of Sterling, Alice McNabb of Rockford and Doris (Frank) Hotchkin of Rockford; nine grandchildren, Joe Rogers, Jr., Nick Morwood, Josie McDermott, Chase McDermott, Courtney Short, Ashley Short, Maddie Short, Peyton Short and Cole Short; two great grandchildren, Landon and Layton Rogers and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Wayne "Judd" Short, Jr. and two sisters, Elzora Wolf and Shirley Moore.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, December 12, 2014 from 4:00-6:00 P.M. at the McDonald Funeral Home in Milledgeville (520 N Holcomb Avenue). A memorial service will follow at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
