Raymond John Espinoza, Sr. age 81 of Sterling, passed away peacefully, Thursday, November 14, 2019 at his home.

Ray was born on June 11, 1938 in Sterling, the son of Pedro A. and Estella M. (Hansen) Espinoza. He is a United States Army Veteran. Ray married Juanita "Jenny" Rose Cruz on February 4, 1961 in Sterling. He worked as a mechanic for Northwestern Steel and Wire for 36 years, retiring on April 1, 1999. Ray was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and the Sterling Moose Club. He coached little league for 25 years and was a die-hard Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. He was a fan of John Wayne and enjoyed woodworking, but most of all, he cherished the time he spent with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jenny; two daughters, Renee J. (Mike Ebert) Espinoza of Elk Grove Village, IL and Tina (Randy) McDaniel of Clinton, IA; one son, Raymond (Deb) Espinoza, Jr. of Sterling; four sisters, Juanita (Jess) Rodriguez of Streator, IL, Tina (Jac) Capes of Jacksonville, FL, Lynda Urrutia of Sterling and Alice (Pinky) Gallegos of Sterling; one brother, Pete (Terry) Espinoza of Bristol, FL; twelve grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Manuel Ramirez and brother-in-law, Steve Urrutia.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Grace Episcopal Church in Sterling, 707 1st Avenue. The funeral Mass will be Thursday, November 21, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Grace Episcopal Church with the Reverend Lori M. Lowe and Reverend Peg Williams celebrating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Episcopal Church or Hospice Compassus.
