Perry J. Ports, 80 of Sterling died Friday November 17, 2017 at his home.

He was born on June 13, 1937 in Sterling, the son of Perry Thomas and Helen Veronica (Drew) Ports. He attended St. Mary Grade School and was a 1955 graduate of Community Catholic (Newman High School) in Sterling. He served in the US Army for 3 years in Germany. Perry married Alice B. Boddiger on May 27, 1961 at Sacred Heart Church in Sterling. He was employed at the former Frantz / Wayne Dalton Garage Door Manufacturing in Sterling for 42 years retiring as a Forman. Perry was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Alice; three sons: Perry T. Ports of Rock Falls, Bill (Ann) Ports of Rockford and Mark (Kristin) Ports of Sharpsburg, GA; two sisters: Jane Lawler of Sterling and Pat (Richard) Hess of Dixon; 8 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday November 21, 2017 from 5-7 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home, 505 1st Avenue in Sterling with the Rosary being recited at 4:45 PM. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Wednesday at 10 AM in St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling, with the Reverend James Keenan, Celebrant officiating. Burial will conclude at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Mary Grade School and Newman Central Catholic High School.
