Minnie L. Maynard, age 97 of Rock Falls, died Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Sterling Pavilion Nursing Home.

Minnie was born on April 21, 1920 in Alexandria Bay, New York, the daughter of George and Ginny (Gaylord) Strough. Minnie met the love of her life, Fred R. Maynard, while he was in the Army stationed at Fort Drum. They were married September 10, 1943 in Alexandria Bay.

Minnie was a crossing guard at Merrill School in Rock Falls for over 39 years, retiring June of 2000. She enjoyed every student that crossed her corner at 5th Avenue and 5th Street, which was named the "Minnie Maynard Corner" by the City of Rock Falls after her retirement. Minnie was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the Chicago Motor Club (AAA) for her years of faithful service to Merrill School. Minnie enjoyed bowling, shopping and most of all, spending time with her family, especially her three great grandchildren. She was also a member of the Rock Falls Fire Department Women's Auxiliary.

Minnie is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Roger) Wait and Sherry Rodriguez; granddaughter, Tara (Rick) Albores; step-grandchildren, Scott Wait and Chris (Hector) Castillo; great grandchildren, Raina Albores, Kinsley Albores and Ricco Albores; four step-grandchildren, Michael Castillo, Marcus Castillo, Amy Castillo and Abby Castillo.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son-in-law, Ron Onken; grandson, Bradley Onken; brother-in-law, Russ Maynard; sister-in-law, Fran Maynard; nephew, Dale Maynard; five brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 30, 2017 from 12:00-2:00 P.M. at the McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Cremation rights to follow with graveside services in New York at a later date.

A memorial has been established.
