Merle E. Linton
Merle E. Linton, age 84, of Sterling, died Saturday, July 1, 2017, at his home.
Merle was born January 15, 1933 in Coleta the son of Chester and Leone (Overholser) Linton. He attended Coleta Schools and later married JoAnn Meiners on January 9, 1986 in Rock Falls. Merle enjoyed farming and bricklaying especially with his father and brother, John. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife. Merle was a lifelong member of the Coleta United Methodist Church and was also a member of Construction Industry and the Sterling Moose Lodge #726.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn of Sterling; three sons, Gary (Sandy) Linton of Sterling, Tim (Karin Murphy) Linton of Milledgeville and Pat (Tracy) Linton of Maize, Kan.; one step son, Jim (Jana) Meiners of Sterling; four step daughters, Paula Meiners of Sterling, Dawn (Jeff) Wilson of Amboy, Marla (Dave) Gatz of Sterling and Amy (Chris) Huffman of Nashville, Tenn.; two sisters, Maxine Frederick of Okla. and Mary Smith of Fla.; 21 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John Linton; and one step daughter, Sara Shuman.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 5, 2017 from 9 – 11:00 AM at the McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Private burial will be at West Genesee Cemetery near Coleta.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
