STERLING – Mary Iva "Missy" Rangel, age 61, beloved mother, wife, sister and friend passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on January 3, 2020.
Mary was born August 16, 1958 to John and Marie (Vogel) Schmitt. She graduated from Sterling High School in 1976. She married Fred Rangel on October 26, 1979 just celebrating their 40th anniversary. They lived in Tucson, Arizona for 2 years before they moved back to Sterling. She worked for Lee Wayne Company and the school district of Sterling for many years.
She was an active member of Sacred Heart Church in Sterling, where she was a communion distributor. She was a P.E.O. sister, an avid golfer winning many tournaments, and enjoyed her beach time in Florida. She loved to exercise, especially yoga and walking as well as traveling with her husband. Mary cherished the laughs and memories she created with her sisters, friends and family.
Mary was the proud mother to Freddy and Nicole, grandmother to Easi, Isla, and Miles, the loves of her life. She was a dedicated wife to Fred who was her constant companion and caregiver to the very end.
She is survived by her husband, Fred; children, son, Freddy Rangel and daughter Nicole (Jake) Osborn; grandchildren, Easi, Isla and Miles; siblings Teresa Schmitt, Timothy Schmitt and Pam McCorkle and many sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Celebration of Life with be held Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from 5:00-8:00PM at the Sterling Moose Lodge. Cremation rites have been accorded. Arrangements were completed by the McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Sacred Heart Church. The family would like to thank the Angel Med flight service who brought Mary home from
California and Gaffey home nursing and hospice care both taking wonderful care of her.
