Marvin "Speed" I. Gulbranson, age 96 of Sterling, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Morningside of Sterling.

Marvin was born on July 19, 1923 in Benson, MN, the son of Ingelbret and Marie (HĂ„velsrud) Gulbranson. He is a United States Army Veteran, serving from 1943-1946. Marvin married Myrtle Hatten on August 6, 1960 at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Sterling. She preceded him in death on May 14, 1990. He was employed by Northwestern Steel and Wire for 43 years, retiring in 1985. Marvin was a member of the Rock Falls American Legion, the Rock Falls VFW, Sterling Moose Lodge and St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Sterling. He enjoyed going dancing but most of all, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his four children, Rhonda (Jeff) Byrd of Rock Falls, Kristine (Paul) Stewart of Marengo, IL, Sheryl Gulbranson of Dixon and Sean (Kelly) Gulbranson of Dixon; one sister, Iola Moe of Sterling; nine grandchildren, Morgan Russell, Taylor Byrd, Colin Stewart, Blake Stewart, Andrew Stewart, Brandy Imfeld, Alicia Gulbranson, Brooke Gulbranson and Gavin Gulbranson; three great grandchildren, Riley and McKaylee Russell and Kailin Gulbranson.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; three brothers, Oscar, Garfield and Morris and one sister, Esther.

Visitation will be Monday, September 9, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls, 1002 12th Avenue. Funeral service will be on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Sterling with Pastor Susan Davenport officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.

Memorials may be made to the Home of Hope or the Alzheimer's Association.
