ROCK FALLS – Marvin Joseph Miller, 71 died Monday August 20, 2018 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling after a short illness. He retired upon their closure from Northwestern Steel and Wire Co with 29 ½ years of service having worked in the nail room and shipping department. Following retirement from the mill, he then drove for Cobane Air Freight for a time.
Marv was born on January 29, 1947 in Sterling the son of George and Mary Jane (Wolf) Miller. He attended Sterling elementary schools and graduated from Sterling High School. He was united in marriage to Sandra K. Jaquet on May 23, 1970 at the First Congregational Church in Rock Falls. In his youth he was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, but joined the First Congregational Church in Rock Falls in later years. Marv served in the Illinois Army National Guard. When his children Shawn and Trista were attending Rock Falls High School and in band, Marv helped with equipment and chaperoned for the Rock Falls Marching Rockets and was a member of the booster club.
Marv liked grilling for the annual Fourth of July family picnic and fireworks, and going to baseball and hockey games. One of his loves was his 1965 Mustang Fastback; he enjoyed working on it and driving it. He was a fan of the Whites Sox and the Chicago Bears. He loved his family, especially his grandson Gavin Henderson.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra; his son Shawn Miller of Rock Falls; his daughter Trista Miller of Rock Falls; his grandson Gavin Henderson of Puyallup, WA and his brother Gary Miller of Sterling.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jon.
Visitation will be held on Friday August 24, 2018 from 5-7 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Avenue in Rock Falls and on Saturday from 9:30 – 10:15 AM at the First Congregational Church – UCC in Rock Falls. The funeral will follow on Saturday at 10:30 AM in the church with the Reverend Al Campbell officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial to the First Congregation Church – UCC of Rock Falls.
