Celebration of Life - Marian E. Hiland, 97, of Prophetstown, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at home surrounded by her family. Cremation rites were accorded and a private graveside service was held on Friday, May 25, at Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown.
Please join us in a celebration of Marian's life, to be held on Monday, July 2, 2018, at the Lyndon Area Historical Society Chapel (former Lyndon Congregational Church), 405 4th Street West, Lyndon IL, gathering to begin at 5:00 pm with a memorial service at 6:00 pm with Reverend Christina Berry of the First Presbyterian Church in Sterling officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Lyndon Area Historical Society and arrangements are through McDonald Funeral Home in Prophetstown.
Marian was born at home near Lyndon on August 11, 1920 to Frank and Nellie (Allen) Eads. She graduated from Lyndon High School and later earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Northern Illinois University. Marian taught 2nd grade at Northside Elementary in Morrison for 27 years. She married Frank Hiland of DeKalb, on August 27, 1944 in Lyndon, and in 1946 they moved to the family farm in Lyndon where they raised their children. Frank preceded her in death on November 20, 2014 after 70 years of marriage. Marian is survived by her children, David (Hilda) Hiland, Sue (Neil) Castelein, Mary Lou (David) Bend; 7 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
Mom, your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
