Madeline Mildred Wilkinson, 96, of Sterling, went home to the Lord on Saturday morning, June 10th at home with her granddaughters Theresa and Wendy at her side.

Madeline was born on January 23, 1921 in New Town, Sullivan County, Missouri to Audrey and Delma (Deeds) Jaques. She married Howard Wilkinson on July 3, 1937 in Trenton, Missouri and he died on August 6, 1966.

Madeline was a cook at the former Hubert Auman Restaurant for 12 years until retirement in 1981 and also The Homestead now the Candlelight Inn and the Willows. She formerly worked at General Electric and the American Legion in Dewitt, Iowa. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Madeline was a caregiver to her nephew Phillip Allen of Dewitt, Iowa for many years. She also cared for her grandchildren. In her younger years, Madeline used to make quilts, play the guitar and accordion. She would embroider and do needle point on pillow cases and dish towels. She loved planting flowers around her home in Dewitt, especially tulips. Madeline enjoyed playing Kings Corners and she and Helen would put together 500 piece jigsaw puzzles. She loved her family and was loved by many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Those left to honor her memory include a daughter Mildred L. Rice of Sterling; son-in-law Gregorio (Payo) Garcia of Sterling; special caregivers Theresa Delgado and Wendy Johnson of Sterling; a brother Donald Lee Jaques of Gilchrist, Ore.; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her sons Wayne and Denver Wilkinson, her daughters Bonita Garcia and Helen Allen, twin grandsons, her sisters Juanita, Bonnie, Lorraine, Macel and Mary; and brothers, Lovell, Waldo and Harold.

Visitation will be from 9-11 AM on Wednesday June 14th at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. The funeral will follow at 11 AM Wednesday at the funeral home with Reverend Loren Schlomer officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling. A memorial has been established in her memory.
