Lois J. Schwitters, age 93 of Sterling died Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Sterling Pavilion Nursing Home in Sterling.

Lois was born September 19, 1922 in Hale, MO the daughter of James and Eliza (Woodard) Osgood. She married William Henry Schwitters on June 15, 1946 in Sterling. He preceded her in death on August 17, 1997. She has been a member of Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sterling since 1946 where she was very involved. Lois had worked at Sears Roebuck, Montgomery Ward, and Franz Manufacturing then enjoyed working as a volunteer at Christ Lutheran's Thrift Shop. She enjoyed gardening and fishing and was a wonderful cookie baker.

Survivors include two daughters Cheryl (John C.) Whitaker of Sterling, and Carolyn (Terry) Schrader of Las Cruses, NM, one son Jim (Suzie) Schwitters of El Paso, TX, seven grandchildren Laurie Groff of Perry, MO, Timothy (Winnie) Whitaker of Austin, TX, Toni (Eric) Peterson of Alamogordo, TX, Teri (Ann) Schrader of Las Cruses, NM, James (Dana) Schwitters of El Paso, TX, Valerie Schwitters of El Paso, TX, and Kathy (Jeremy) Bartlett of Austin, TX, ten great grandchildren Krysta Groff, John Donald Groff, Cole Whitaker, Indie Whitaker, Juliana Bartlett, Madison Schwitters, Vera Schwitters, Kylie Schwitters, Connor Schrader and Hanna (Colton) Trego, one great-great grandchild Rhiannon Trego and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and two sisters.

A visitation will be from 10:00-11:00AM Monday, January 25, 2016 at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sterling. The funeral service will follow at 11:00AM at the church with Reverend Daniel Behmlander officiating. Burial will be at Hopkins Township Cemetery in Rural Sterling.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church or Hospice of the Rock River Valley.
