STERLING – Leonard E. Prew, age 91, died Wednesday March 21, 2018 at Rock River Hospice & Home, Sterling.
Leonard was born August 28, 1926 in Dixon the son of Louis and Rose (Rietz) Prew. He married Doris Boehm on July 17, 1949. She died November 5, 1997. Later he married Marilyn Jones-Mosher on October 17, 1998. Leonard was employed as the head of the accounting department and assistant to the treasurer at Northwestern Steel & Wire for 34 years retiring January 1, 1985. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sterling having taught Sunday school, superintendent, treasurer and church council. Leonard was the accountant for the Dillon Foundation, 4D farms and did taxes and investments for clients and many family members. In his early years he enjoyed fishing, bowling and playing cards. During his retirement he enjoyed reading and following the stock market.
Survivors include, his wife Marilyn; two daughters, Susan (Mark) Janssen of LeClaire, Iowa and Lori Gonzales of Rock Falls; two step daughters, Patricia (Ed) Loos and Becky (Kevin) Buss both of Sterling; one son, David (Marilyn Woods) Prew of Kauai, Hawaii; six grandchildren, Nicholas Prew of Pacific Grove, Calif. Jacqueline Prew of Boulder, Colo. Kyle Janssen of Parker, Colo. Allison (Joe) Dague of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Erika Gonzales of Rock Falls and Ryan Gonzales of Sterling; five step grandchildren, Leanna (Jason) Slater, Carrie Loos, Matthew (Carrie) Cunniff, Amy (DuWayne) Higley and Jonathan Cunniff; one great grandchild; seven step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lee Prew; one sister, Darlen Stokes.
Visitation will be from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM Monday, March 26, 2018 at the McDonald Funeral Home, Rock Falls. Graveside services will follow at 12:30 PM at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling with Reverend Leo Patterson officiating.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Rock River Hospice & Home.
