Larry Lubbs, 73, of Sterling passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, August 6, 2021 after a short battle with cancer.

He was born on May 9, 1948 in Princeton, IL the son of Norman and Beverly Lubbs. He married Becky Mann on February 16, 1979 in Dixon, IL. He was employed at the Daily Gazette and Sauk Valley Newspapers for 20 years as a pressman and commercial printing and packing and distribution foreman. He served in the US Army from 1969 - 1971 as a specialist and was stationed in Germany as a tank operator.

Larry enjoyed the comforts of home by working in the gardens, cooking and watching the history and discovery channels. Despite many years of health problems he still enjoyed taking day trips and gallivanting with his wife Becky, seeing new unexpected adventures traveling the backroads and river roads especially the Mississippi river with all its beauty and history.

He enjoyed visiting with his wife's children, grandchildren and their families. Larry loved decorating for the holidays with many trees, snowmen and holiday decor throughout their home in celebration of Christmas. He also enjoyed visiting nurseries and farmers markets, their cats, cars from the 70's and " Buelah" his antique 1930 Ford.

Survived by his wife Becky; step-sons Bob Mann (Chris Driskell) Lake Geneva, WI and Bill (Vanessa) Mann, Elkhorn, WI; grandchildren Becca Mann, Paso Robles, CA, Kade Mann, Lake Geneva, WI, Azure Mann, Coralville, IA, Madeline Nelson, Elkhorn, WI, Joey Balog, Elkhorn, WI; great-granddaughters Hayden Mann and Naveena Mann, and great-grandson Layati Mann,

Paso Robles, CA; sisters and brothers Jackie (Marty) Huntley, Sterling, IL, Dave (Cindy) Lubbs, Carterville, IL, Lori (Tim) Gryder, Siloam Springs, AR and Tammy Bass, Sterling; sisters-in-law Mary Ann (Bill) Stremlau, Ottawa, IL, Helen (David) Dutz, Belvidere, IL and Debbie (Norm) Lubbs, Raleigh, NC; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by both parents, step-mother Donna Lubbs and brother Norm Lubbs.

A gathering of friends and family will take place on Thursday August 12, 2021 from 10 – 11 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sterling. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 AM with the Reverend Richard R. Kramer officiating. Burial with military honors will conclude at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Arrangements entrusted to McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rock River Hospice & Home, Sterling.
