John "Jack" G. Rinehart, 86 of Rock Falls died Sunday March 24, 2019 at Dixon Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on June 15, 1932 in Flagg Center, IL the son of Ernest Vernon and Catherine Mary (Keefe) Rinehart. Jack was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the US Navy. He married Mary Ann Budai on October 29, 1955 in Inglewood, CA. She died June 19, 2011. Jack was employed by the City of Sterling as a police officer retiring with the rank of Lieutenant in 1987. He then continued on in law enforcement by working as a Civil Process Server for Whiteside County Sheriff's Department from 1988 – 1993. In his retirement years, Jack work at Rigler's Shooting and Sports Supply in Rock Falls. He was an avid duck hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Sterling American Legion Post 296.

Survivors include his son, Michael (Erik Westberg) Rinehart of Boca Raton, FL; three grandchildren: Angela (Kerry) Sansale, Paula (Frank) Dickson and Christopher (Lynn) Rinehart; two great grandchildren: Destiny and Bessie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Dorothy Rinehart and Zana Whipple and his half-sister Bette Cole.

Visitation will be held on Thursday March 28, 2019 from 5-7PM at the McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Avenue in Rock Falls. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Friday at 10 AM in St. Andrew Catholic Church in Rock Falls with the Reverend Richard M. Russo, Celebrant officiating. Military honors will conclude the services at the church.
