STERLING – John J. Tomczak, age 70, died Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.
John was born on, "5 - 5 - 51, John and Jennie's baby son" in Sterling, the son of John and Jennie (Franks) Tomczak. He married Jan Kendall on March 15, 1997 in Milledgeville. John was employed as a Millwright for 25 years with Northwestern Steel & Wire in Sterling, he also served as union president for a number of years. After retiring, he spent 15 years with STS Hydro Power in Dixon. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, competitive trap shooter, and was a member of the Morrison Hunt Club. He was also a hunting guide with Roy Rogers Hunt Club in Ohio, IL.
Survivors include his wife Jan Tomczak of Sterling; three daughters, Michelle (Roger) Miller of Oregon IL, Jennifer (Michael) Tucker of Tehachapi, Calif., Marcy (Scott) Lenox of Volo, IL; one son, Corey (Julie) Kendall of Chadwick, IL; one sister, Rose (Jack) Giesfeldt of West Milwaukee, Wis.; one brother, Mike Tomczak of Rock Falls; sixteen grandchildren; Kyle (Erica) Wyckstandt, Colin Wyckstandt, Emily Wyckstandt, Jacob (Danielle) Miller, Jon Miller, Andrew Miller, John Tucker, Nora Tucker, Cara Tucker, Olivia Tucker, Ava Tucker, Kyle Kendall, Ryan Kendall, Troy Kendall, Stella Lenox, and Hudson Lenox; eight great grandchildren; and many friends he considered family, like his daily coffee crews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Judy; brother, Paul; and son, Jason.
A celebration of life will be held from 2:00- 5:00 pm Sunday, February 27, 2022 at the McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Honoring John's wish, his body will be donated to medical science.
