John E. Williamson Sr, 61 of Sterling passed away on Friday October 15, 2021 surround by his loved ones.

He was born on August 30, 1960 in Sterling, the son of Thomas W. and Catherine "Louise" (Mattingly) Williamson. He married Penny Ann Collier on April 21, 1984. She died January 4, 2019. He had worked as a union laborer for Sjostrom and Sons until he retired in 1996. He was a coon hunter and dog breeder all of his life. He gained national recognition and won countless awards for his achievements. John enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He believed that family was everything. John had many hobbies and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, cultivating medical cannabis, canning, poker and casinos.

Survivors include his daughters: Stephanie (Brad) George and Vashta (Adam) Fitzpatrick; his sons: John (Angela) Williamson and Josh (Gina) Williamson; his sisters: Peggy Williamson of New Hope, KY, Wanda Williamson and Lisa Williamson both of Loretto, KY and Sheila Williamson of Rock Falls; his brothers: Joe (Debbie) Williamson of Loretto, KY, Richard (Pat) Williamson of Rock Falls and Wayne Williamson of Sterling; 11 grandchildren: Alexander, Issaiah, Abigail, Nevaeh, Adrian, Reese, Hayden, Arianna, Drake, Xavier and Jayse.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a brother Garry Williamson.

A gathering of friends and family will take place on Wednesday October 20, 2021 from 9-11 AM at the McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory in Rock Falls. The memorial service will follow at 11 AM with Pastor Les Funderberg officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
