ROCK FALLS – James J. Howell, Sr. age 72, died at home surrounded by family Thursday, March 15, 2018 following an extended illness.
James was born on July 7, 1945 in Cahokia the son of Joy and Norma (Meyer) Howell. He married Judith L. Hart on July 1, 1989 in Clinton, Iowa. She died January 10, 2017. He was employed as a Lineman with AT&T for 39 years. James served his country in the Navy for 4 years and 19 ½ years with the Army National Guard. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, 40 year member of the American Legion and an avid gun enthusiast.
Survivors include two daughters, Dacia (Thomas) Nelson of Sterling and Marissa (Jeremy) Lowe of Richmond, Ky.; two sons, James (Holley) Howell, Jr. of Aiken, S.C. and Nathan Howell of Rock Falls; six sisters; two brothers; seventeen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers.
Visitation will be from 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM Monday, March 19, 2018 at the McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Funeral services will be at 1:30 with Pastor Brian Tribley of the Firehouse of God officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling.
