James E. Hardt, 83, a resident of Rock Falls, died at his home surrounded by loved ones on Saturday evening, April 27, 2019.

James was born on July 7, 1935 in Bellwood to Fred J. and Ethel (Klug) Hardt. On June 8, 1957 he was united in marriage to Marianne Litster in Bellwood. He served in the United States Army and was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Rock Falls, where he actively volunteered for many church and community activities. Jim worked for Illinois Bell for 38 years as an inspector until his retirement in 1993.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Marianne, of Rock Falls; his daughters, Laurie (Carlos) Coelho of British Columbia, Barbara Hardt of Chicago, and Carol (Luis) Navarro of Chicago; a son, Fred Hardt of Batavia; a sister, Evelyn (Bob) Carson of California; a brother, Bob Hardt of Sterling; and seven grandchildren, Erica (Stephan) Duong, Nicholas Maxwell, Kevin Bezanson, Bethany Bezanson, Ricardo Navarro, Andres Navarro and Jonah Navarro; and one great grandson Raiden Duong.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Maryann Hardt.

Cremation rites will be accorded. A gathering will take place on Friday, May 3 from 9-10:30 AM followed by a time of sharing at 10:30AM at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Burial of the cremains will be at 2 P.M. Friday, May 3 at Oak Ridge Cemetery, 4301 Roosevelt Road, Hillside. In lieu of flowers please donate to the charity of your choice.
