James R. "Dick" Adams, 81 of Sterling died Wednesday April 10, 2019 at Rock River Hospice and Home.

He was born on March 11, 1938 in Sterling the son of James H. and Pauline M. (Davis) Adams and was a 1956 graduate of Community High School in Sterling. He served in the US Army. Dick was united in marriage to Arlene Michels on July 1, 1961 in Dixon. He began his working career after his time in the military having worked at the Parish Alford plant in Rock Falls. He then went on to work with his father in the family business, Sterling Cleaners. After the business was sold, he then worked at Gate City Steel in Sterling from where he retired in 1997.

Dick had enjoyed golfing; wintering in Florida; going on vacation trips to Northern Wisconsin and boating.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene; his sons, Michael Adams of Plainfield, IL and Terry (Michelle) Adams of Geneva, IL; his sisters: Karen Long of Cumming, GA, Pam (Kim) Mohan of Seattle, WA, Marietta Horn of Rockford and Kyle Donnelly of Lake in the Hills, IL; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and 2 sisters: Barbara (Graff) Fulton and Linda Dunaway.

A gathering of friends and family will take place on Saturday April 13, 2019 from 1:30 – 3 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home and Crematory, 1002 12th Avenue in Rock Falls.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rock River Hospice & Home.
