James Douglas Partridge, 91 of Sterling, died Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling.

James was born on January 13, 1927 in Dixon, the son of Hector and Mabel (Dettman) Partridge. He is a United States Army Veteran and served in WWII as a Private First Class. James then joined the Army National Guard and retired as Sergeant First Class. He married Trudy Lambert on March 7, 1948. James then married Carolyn Dupray Wechsler on May 14, 1965 in Sterling. He worked for Northwestern Steel and Wire in Sterling as a Semi-Driver, retiring in 1990. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, doing word puzzles and loved dancing with Carolyn. A proud moment in his life was going on the Honor Flight to Washington DC. James was a member of the Elks Club in Dixon, the Sterling American Legion and St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sterling.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; one son, Gary L. (Helen) of Peru, IN; two daughters, Carolyn J. (Wayne) Spencer of Rock Falls and Patricia Partridge of Rock Falls; one step-daughter, Sheryl (Wechsler) Hall of Rock Falls; one sister, Shirley Manning of Polo; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Randall Partridge and two step-children, Brian Wechsler and Sharon (Wechsler) Simpson.

A gathering of family and friends will take place on Monday, April 30, 2018 from 3:00-4:00 P.M. at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Sterling. Memorial service will follow at 4:00 P.M. at the church with Reverend Leo Patterson officiating. Military Honors will follow after the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rock River Hospice and Home and St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church.
