James C. Matthews, age 83, of Milledgeville, died Monday, March 28, 2022 at Genesis Hospital in Davenport, IA.
James was born May 17, 1938 in Montfort, WI, the son of Clinton and Nancy (Giltner) Matthews. He was a 1956 graduate of Montfort High School and later married Nancy Reger on September 25, 1959 in Nashua, IA. She preceded him in death on August 10, 2017. James was employed at Northwestern Steel and Wire for 28 years retiring in 1993. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing for catfish with his wife, Nancy, on the Mississippi and Rock Rivers. He was the inventor of J & N Dip Worm. James was a Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers and Milledgeville Missiles fan and loved watching his grandchildren's sports and activities.
He is survived by four daughters, Billie Jo (Don Geiger) Matthews of Coleta, Bobbie (Jerry) Gibbs of Milledgeville, Bette (Dalbert) Wiebenga of Morrison and Be Miller of Milledgeville; two sons, Jon (Mary) Matthews of Lanark and JC (Kim) Matthews of Milledgeville; eight grandchildren, Steven (Sarah) Wiebenga, Kevin Wiebenga, Andrew Gibbs, Eric (Logan) Gibbs, Damon Miller, Rylee Matthews, Jeff (Alissa) Althoff and Katie (Rick) Warner; and eight great grandchildren, Caden, Madelynn, and Nolan Wiebenga, Taylor Hooper, Maddy and Austin Warner, and Henry and Jared Althoff.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sisters, Mary Ann, Patsy and Nancy; and brothers, Keith, Bill, George and Chuck.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
