Howard J. Hageman, 81, of Sterling, died on Tuesday evening, January 16, 2018 at Genesis East Medical Center in Davenport, Iowa.

Howard was born on March 2, 1936 in Fort Atkinson, Iowa to Andrew and Marie (Tekippe) Hageman. He married Doris Brannon on June 5, 1962 in Lourdes, Iowa.

He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1954-1957. Howard worked at Northwestern Steel and Wire Company for 24 years until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, golfing, playing cards and telling stories. Howard was a graduate of Calmar High School in Calmar, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife, Doris, of Sterling; his children, Sherry (Gene) Rosengren of Rock Falls, Larry (Sue) Hageman of Dixon, Ruth (Chris) Montino of Sterling and Rose (Jeff) Stauter of Dixon; his grandchildren, Megan, Shawn and Bree Rosengren; Matt, Kate and Rachel Hageman; Logan and Kevin Montino; Madeliene, Lizzy, Thomas, and Nathan Stauter; a sister, Carolyn Laidley of Oklahoma; and 2 brothers, Herb (Carol) Hageman and Dave (Nancy) Hageman of Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Myles and Don Hageman.

Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Friday with the rosary at 4:45 PM at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM Saturday at St. Andrew Catholic Church with Reverend Richard Russo, officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Sterling.
