Helen D. Last, age 88 of Sterling, died Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Regency Care of Sterling.

Helen was born on January 29, 1929, in Sterling, the daughter of John L. and Frances Kathryn (Schutt) Gaffey. She married Homer "Perle" Last on June 30, 1943 in Clinton, IA. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1996. Helen worked at General Electric in Morrison for 30 years before her retirement in 1989. She loved to travel and see the mountains. She enjoyed shopping and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her three daughters, Carolyn (Al Snyder) Prater of Sterling, Cynthia (Stacy) Peterson of Prophetstown and Cathy (Joel, Jr.) Canas of Sterling; one brother, John E. "Jack" Gaffey of Sterling; seven grandchildren, Tim (Brenda) Prater, Jeff (Sue) Prater, Mari (Doug, Sr.) Brown, Tandy (Curt) Howard, Wendy (Matt) Biestervelde, Christy (Chris) Abell and Cory Canas and thirteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, Eunice Flosi and one brother, Leo Gaffey.

Visitation will be on Monday, January 22, 2018 from 9:30-11:00 A.M. at the McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home with Reverend Brandon Nelson, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.
