Hazel Capp, 105, died Saturday December 1, 2018 in Sterling.
She was born in Coleta on August 3, 1913, the daughter of Edward Elizabeth (Gaffey) Morris - and was a lifelong resident of Sterling. She married Clarence Capp on October 12, 1939 in Sterling. He died April 30, 1992.
She was employed with Mitchell Insurance Agency in Sterling and enjoyed various activities including bowling, playing cards and playing golf – having spent many years as a member of Emerald Hill Country Club. She was affiliated with the Elks Club, and was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Church – having regularly attended mass up to a few years ago.
One of her greatest passions was being a diehard Cubs fan – patiently waiting 103 years to finally see her Cubbies win the 2016 World Series.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Frank, William, Harold and Joseph, sister Marie, her husband Clarence, and beloved son Ron.
She is survived by grandsons Terry Capp and Greg (Katie) Capp, step grandsons Kyle (Corrie) Ackman and Chad (Melissa) Ackman, step granddaughter Elizabeth (Todd) Buice, and 5 step great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday December 5, 2018 McDonald Funeral Home, 505 1st Avenue in Sterling from 10:00-10:50 AM, followed by the Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling. The Reverend James R. Keenan, Celebrant officiating. Burial will conclude at Calvary Cemetery.
