Harry A. Treadwell, 93, of Benton, Ill., passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Morningside of Sterling in Sterling, Ill.

Harry was born on July 14, 1923 in Elgin, Ill. to Charles A. and Verna (Willand) Treadwell. He was united in marriage to Carol Roblee on January 8, 1945 in Glen Ellyn, Ill. They celebrated over 72 years of marriage together.

Harry was a veteran of the US Army serving proudly during World War II in the Philippines and Japan.

Harry was a 1941 graduate of Elgin Academy in Elgin, Ill. He later attended Purdue University where he met his wife and earned his B.S. degree in 1947. Harry was employed by Freeman Coal Mining Company from 1950 until his retirement in 1985. During his 35 years with the company he was a Forrester and managed the natural resources later moving to the worker's compensation department becoming a compensation manager. Harry and Carol were faithful members of First Baptist Church in Benton for over 50 years. He was a leader in the Benton community where he served 2 terms on the Benton Consolidated School Board and later served on the Franklin County School Board. He was a lifetime member of PTA and served on various church boards and committees throughout his 50 year membership. Harry was active in the Benton Booster Club and an avid Airstreamer. He and Carol enjoyed the outdoors and traveling, making a total of 6 trips to Alaska in their camper and pickup truck.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife Carol of Sterling, Ill.; 2 daughters Debby Treadwell of Lisle, Ill. and Leigh Miller of Elgin, Ill.; 2 grandsons, Marc (Katie) Miller of Elgin, Ill. and Don Miller of West Chicago, Ill.; and 2 great grandsons, Hudson and Will Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Charles Treadwell and a son-in-law Harold Miller.

Cremation rites have been accorded and there will be no services at this time. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church of Benton, 201 South Main Street, Benton, Ill., 62812.
