Gilbert "Scotty" Griffin, 76, of Sterling, died on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at CGH Medical Center. Scotty was born on February 16, 1945 in Moline, the son of Nels and Joyce (Rogers) Griffin. He was a proud veteran of the US Marines, Air Force and National Guard. Scotty served in the Vietnam War, and was a 1964 Purple Heart recipient. He married Carolyn Brooks Covin in 1980 in Oklahoma City, OK. Scotty was a graphic artist for many years, and most recently was employed at Menards in Sterling.

Survivors include his wife Carolyn, of Sterling; one daughter, Emily Rose of Amboy; one brother, Alan (Pat) Griffin of Moline; granddaughter, Molly (Dave) McCarver of Amboy; one great grandson, Griffin Ohlendorf; and another great-grandson on the way, Eamonn McCarver.

Scotty was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jeff Covin; and one sister, Bonnie Helgason.

Cremation rites will be accorded. A private family celebration will be held.
