George N. Ziegler, age 89, of Fulton died Saturday, January 09, 2016, at Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton, IL.
George was born September 13, 1926, in Luana, IA; the son of George H. and Clara C. (Nelson) Ziegler. He married Genevive I. Brown on in June of 1947, in Morrison. She preceded him in death by August 10, 2009. George served in the US Army during the WWII, from 1944 – 1946 in the Philippines and Japan areas. He worked as an Iron Worker with Local #111 for 46 years, retiring in 1994. George was a member of the Iron Workers Local #111 for 65 years and the American Legion Post #2910. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include one daughter, Bonnie (Ben) Keag of Erie, IL; two sons, Randy (Sheryl) Ziegler and Terry (Dotty) Ziegler both of Fulton, IL; one sister, Jeri (Robert) Klavenga of Fulton, IL; one brother, Robert (Carolyn) Ziegler of Albany, IL; two grandchildren, Tricia (Dave) Mickley, and Angie (Chris) Brown; and four great grandchildren, Nathan and Anna Mickley, and Brynn and Caleb Brown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and one sister, Carol Damhoff.
A private graveside service has taken place at Fulton Township Cemetery in Fulton, IL.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Fulton Food Pantry.
