Genevieve E. O'Malley, 90, of Sterling, died on Thursday afternoon, October 12, 2017 at her home.

She was born on May 15, 1927 in Princeton to Albert and Mae (Parlier) Barth. She was united in marriage to Frank O'Malley on October 12, 1946 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling. He preceded her in death in 1982.

Mrs. O'Malley worked in the catalog department at Sears and later became a teacher's aide with Bi County Co-Op serving the children of Franklin and Dillon Schools.

She was a leader of both Girl and Boy Scouts and active with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren's school activities throughout the years. She especially loved to listen to her great-granddaughters play the violin and was active in the Reading Grandparent Program. Genevieve enjoyed going for walks and playing cards with friends and in her younger years she candled chicken eggs. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling, the Alter and Rosary Society, was a Vital Volunteer and delivered communion to shut-ins.

Survivors include her daughters, Jeannie Greenwald of Chadwick, and Debbie (John) Thompson of Dixon; a son, Michael (Kattie) O'Malley of Sycamore; her grandchildren, Angela (Andy) Shaw, Jessica (Peter Schillaci) Greenwald, Erin Thompson, Christopher (Catherine) Thompson, Amanda O'Malley and Shannon O'Malley; her great grandchildren, Ava and Sophie Shaw, Gracie and Cecilia Schillaci, Palmer Thompson, Carter Hunter and Kenna O'Malley; and her sisters, Alberta Nusbaum of Dixon and Arlene (Lloyd) Johnson of Deer Grove; and special friend Harvey Waldschmidt of Sterling.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son in law, Kerry Greenwald, a brother Ed Barth and a great grandson Anthony Shaw.
