Eugene "Gene" Edwin George, age 92 of Sterling, IL passed away in peace at the Minneapolis Veterans Home on Monday, the 27th of July, 2015.

Gene was born January 30, 1923 in Aurora, IL the son of Albert E. and Lena K. (Otten) George.

Gene graduated from Rock Falls High School in 1942 and attended Northern Illinois University prior to serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during WW II. He was an upholsterer by trade and owned George's Woodlawn Upholstery in Sterling, IL and co-owned Thunder Lake Lodge in Remer, MN from 1954 – 1976. Gene was a member of the New Life Lutheran Church, the American Legion and Moose Lodge in Sterling. Gene loved his family, artistry, hunting and fishing in the great north woods and, of course, football. He had a wonderful sense of humor, positive attitude and enjoyed dancing and socializing with his many friends.

He is survived by his two sisters Anna (Myron) Yoeckel of Moline, IL and Barb Millerschoen of Sterling, IL and one sister-in-law Ruth George of Sterling, IL, his three loving daughters Caree (Randy) Gordon of Duluth MN, Crete Stahmer of Ingleside, IL and Cam George of Minneapolis, MN and three grandchildren Stacy, Ryan and Bradley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and three brothers Paul, Stanley, and Henry.

The memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at New Life Lutheran Church in Sterling with Reverend Bill Sullivan officiating. Military honors by the Sterling American Legion will immediately follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Sterling Moose Family Center, 2601 East Lincolnway, Sterling, IL 61081.
