Elmer G. Habben Jr, 59, of Sterling, died Wednesday, Sept. 5th, 2018 at home after a five year battle with lung cancer.

Elmer or "E" as he was called was born Sept. 7, 1958, in Sterling, the son of Elmer and Evelyn (Evans) Habben. He attended Hopkins Elementary School and graduated from Sterling High School in 1977. He married Kathy Kissee on Oct 5, 1985 at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Elmer worked at Dana Corporation for 28 years and also farmed for more than 20 years. He was a life time member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Sterling and enjoyed playing with his grandson, boating, swimming, anything John Deere and motorcycle riding. He was determined, strong-willed and meticulous about everything he did or owned such as vacuuming the floor everyday with that darn yellow canister vacuum. Elmer enjoyed unusual sporting events such as cutting cookies on a not completely frozen pond in his truck which turned into fishing for your truck. Rock climbing past the "Danger Do Not Enter" sign to sit on the ledge overlooking the Mississippi River, jumping barge waves in his boat to see how many people he could relocate in the boat at one time and drinking an ice cold Budweiser while watching the corn grow.
Elmer and his wife took many Caribbean trips with the highlight being to Punta Cana to renew their wedding vows of 30 years on the beach. His son Justin and him were exactly alike although they couldn't see it, we could.

Survivors include his wife (My Love), Kathy; three sons, Justin N. Habben (Nicole), Sterling, Jace Habben (Drea Slayton) of Ft. Myers, Florida and Josh Habben at home, one grandson, Bentley Habben and one granddaughter on the way, Ella Habben; one sister, Doreen Knudsen of El Mirage, Arizona; one brother, Rick Habben (Brenda) of Peoria, Arizona; niece Ashley DeFazio, nephew Tyler Habben of Peoria, Arizona and his furry daughters Tosha and Holly; and his mother in law Patricia (Carol) Gray of Nelson, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, half-sister Ruth Koser, three half- brothers Raymond, Robert and Ronnie Habben.

A memorial will be established.
