Ellen A. "Boots" Spencer, 90, of Walnut, formerly of Sterling, died on Monday, April 24, 2017 at Heritage Health in Walnut.

Boots was born on June 23, 1926 in Rock Falls a daughter of Otto and Margaret (Whyte) Von Holten. She was united in marriage to Russell LeRoy Spencer, Sr. on February 2, 1947 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rock Falls. He preceded her in death on June 23, 2016.

Boots was a faithful member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rock Falls for many years. She was very active in church activities including the Martha's Circle and the quilting group. Boots enjoyed crocheting, knitting, crafting, sewing, playing cards and games. She loved her family very much and never knew a stranger.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Pam (Jim) Meyer of Walnut, Corinne (Joe) Olalde of Galt, Shirley (Sid) Attig of Walnut, Russell (Luanne) Spencer, Jr. of Sterling and Sandy (Duane) Cordes of Walnut; sisters, Marie Schulte, Marge (Maynard) Parker and Euryth (Louis) Vickrey all of Walnut; 20 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 7 great- great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and siblings Leo, James, John, Bob, Gene, Don, Dick and Betty Ann.

Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Thursday at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rock Falls. The funeral will be at 10:30 AM Friday at the church with Reverend Vicki Sauter officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in her memory to Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rock Falls.
