Edward J. Kobbeman, 98 of Rock Falls died Thursday October 26, 2017 at his home.

He was born on August 27, 1919 in Tampico, the son of Henry S. and Emma (Schwamberger) Kobbeman. He was a veteran of WW II as a fighter pilot with the US Army Air corps, having flown 98 missions. He served in the South pacific for 17 months with the 67th, 68th, 339th Fighter Squadron of the 347 Fighter Group. He left the service having earned the rank of Lt. Colonel. He was awarded many medals including the Purple Heart. He married Lucile Knapp on May 24, 1944. She died August 1, 1979. He later married Beverly C. (Rogness) McMurry on June 19, 1982. Ed had worked as rural mail carrier for 32 years for the Rock Falls Postal Service before retiring. He had volunteered with the Rock River Development Authority (RRDA) for 15 years, and had assisted in clearing and reopening the bike/walking path on the canal. He was a member of the Rock Falls American Legion Post 902; the "Barn Owls" and a past member of the Sterling Family Moose.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly; his children: Patricia (Jack McGlone) Lorenz of Largo, FL, Joseph (Linda) Kobbeman of Louisville, KY and Catherine (Bill) Rueth of Bradenton, FL; his step daughters: Jill (Dennis) Reed of Snohomish, WA and Kelly (Marsha) Collins - McMurry of Columbia, MD; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sibblings: Helen Burke Hermes, Francis Kobbeman, Harry Kobbeman and Bernadine Steffen; and grandson Jacob Rueth.

At his request, Edward has willed his body to medical science. Mass will be celebrated on Sunday October 29, 2017 (which fulfills the Sunday obligation) at 11 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church in Tampico, with the Monsignor Gerald Kobbeman officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Arrangements completed by the McDonald Funeral Homes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial in his memory to St. Mary Catholic Church in Tampico would be appreciated.
