Douglas T. Crofton, 70, of Sterling, passed away on Tuesday December 10, 2019 at Rock River Hospice and Home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Doug was born on July 15, 1949, the son of Donald and June Smith Crofton. He Married Berta J. Gillis on August 20, 1971 in Sterling.
Doug proudly served our country in the United States Army. He worked for Illinois Department of Transportation for 37 ½ years retiring in 2002. After retiring he worked for Allied Waste. Doug attended Harvest Time Bible Church. He was also a life member of Sterling Optimist Club. Doug enjoyed tinkering in his garage, collecting watches and antiques, thrift storing, but above all, he enjoyed being with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and sister, Linda Hughes.
Doug is survived by his wife of 48 years, Berta Crofton; daughter, Kari (Brian) Matthews of Tampico; son, Douglas Buyers of Sterling; four grandchildren, Makenzie Crofton-Dowding, Blayne Crump, Madison Orlando, and Travis Matthews; great-granddaughter, Willow; twin brother, Michael of Franklin Grove; sisters, Donna Rife of Sterling, Carol (Dave) Hadley of Rock Falls, and Shirley Conrady of Beach City, OH; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be Friday December 13, 2019 from 4-6 PM followed by the funeral at 6 PM at McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Avenue in Rock Falls. Burial with military honors will conclude on Saturday at 10 AM at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling.
