ROCK FALLS – Dorothy J. Hendryx, 92 of Rock Falls died Saturday December 14, 2019 at Citadel of Sterling.
She was born on June 22, 1927 in Massbach, IL the daughter of Mortiz Arthur and Lillie Regina (Haas) Zink. She married Allen G. Hendryx on July 27, 1963 in Rock Falls. He died January 22, 2019. Dorothy had worked at GE in Morrison for approximately 15 years. She graduated from Northern Illinois Teachers College in DeKalb. She had taught at Franklin Center, High School; at the Dixon Correctional Center and Sauk Valley Community College. She had served as past executive director of Golden Meal in Sterling. Dorothy was a member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her son Darrell (Nancy) Holbrook of Sterling; her daughter Dea Shikes of Lakewood, CO; her daughter in law Dr. Jodi Holbrook of Rockford; her step sons: Christopher (Susan) Hendryx of Destin, FL and Michael (Juhua) Hendryx of Bloomington, IN; her sister Marjorie (Dennis) Ackermann of Naples, FL; her brothers: Donald (Viola) Zink of Mount Carroll and Harold "Corky" (Donna) Zink of Rock Falls; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son Michael Holbrook in 1993; her granddaughter Traci Holbrook Payne and her two brothers: Eugene and Lawrence Zink; and son in law Steven Shikes.
Visitation will be Wednesday December 18, 2019 from 9:30 – 10:15 AM at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in Rock Falls. The funeral will follow at 10:30 AM. in the church with the Reverend Bree Truax officiating. Burial will conclude at Coloma Township Cemetery. Arrangements by McDonald Funeral Homes.
