Donna J. Dirks, 86, of Sterling, died on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at Regency Care of Sterling.

Donna was born on April 20, 1935 in Princeton, the daughter of Leslie and Marcella (Bohm) Stern. She graduated from Rock Falls High School in 1953. On Sunday, December 19, 1954, Donna married Lyle W. Dirks in Sterling. For 15 years she worked as a dental assistant with Dr. E.O. DeWeerth, retiring in 1985. Donna enjoyed anything red, white and blue, spending time with family, participating in bible studies, walking with her friends, bike riding, and playing golf (which included a hole-in-one). Donna and Lyle were active members of New Life Lutheran Church in Sterling.

Survivors include her husband of 66 ½ years, Lyle W. Dirks; her three children, Lyle C. (Sherrie) Dirks of Winnebago, Lynda (Thomas Sr.) Staples of Sterling, and Larri (Susan) Dirks of Sterling; nine grandchildren, Nathan, Angela, and Jacob Dirks, Amber (Mat) Sieber, SSG Thomas (Marci) Staples, Jr., Eric Staples, Kirk (Stacia) Staples, Nickolaus (Antori) Dirks, and Benjamin (Allison) Dirks; ten great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Jacob, Shylo, Mackenzie, Alexis (Alex), Quinn, Adam, Elizabeth, Charles, and Annie; one great-great grandson Brantley; two brothers, Leslie (Beverly) Stern, and Melvin (Beverly) Stern; one sister-in-law Barbara Stern; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Robert and John; two sisters, Madge and Barbara Ann; and one grandson Michael.

Public visitation will be from 3:00-6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 13th at McDonald Funeral Home, 505 1st Ave, Sterling and Thursday, October 14th from 9:30-10:15 A.M. at New Life Lutheran Church, 702 W. Lynn Blvd, Sterling. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday at the church with Pastor Ben Anderson officiating. The funeral service will be live streamed to the McDonald Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling.
